Family & Consumer Sciences

FCS Extension programs aim to improve the quality of individual and family life through education, research, and outreach.

What is Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS)?

FCS stands for Family and Consumer Sciences Extension. FCS programming focus on building assets of individuals and families to address problems faced across the lifespan. Family and Consumer Sciences Extension emphasizes well-being with a focus on human development, parenting, resource management, nutrition, health and leadership development.

At the community level, FCS Extension prepares individuals for community and economic development and activity. Professionals in Family and Consumer Sciences Extension provide the tools to help individuals and families to develop resources for strengthening families and building community for an ever changing society.

This newsletter contains the months of November and December of 2024 and January of 2025.

Homemaker Update

Homemaker Dues
Homemaker Dues are due November 15th.
Dues are $12. Pay at the Spencer County Ex-tension Office. We accept cash or check. If paying with cash please bring the exact amount, we do not have change. Make checks payable to Spencer County Homemakers.

Council Meetings
-Spencer County Homemaker Council is 11/12/24 at 11 AM at the Extension Office.
-Louisville Area Homemaker Council is 11/18/24 at 10 AM at Shelby County.

Inclement Weather
As Winter approaches we want to clarify our inclement weather policy for our programs.
If Spencer County Public Schools have closed due to inclement weather no Homemaker groups will meet.

Toys for Tots
We will be collecting toys for Toys for Tots at the Extension Office until December 1st!

KEHA Week, October 14 - October 18, 2024
Homemaker’s “Family Favorites” Potluck
October 15, Registration - 11:30, Lunch - 12:00
R.S.V.P. by October 10th, call (502) 477-2217.
Bring a favorite family dish to share. Ham and drinks will be provided by the Extension Office.
Homemaker Movie Day
Thursday, October 17 at 1:30PM.
We will be streaming My Fair Lady and a discussion about costuming and design will follow. Bring your favorite movie snack to share!

Community Service Day
Project Pillowcase
We are excited to extend an invitation to you for our “Project Pillowcase” event. We’ll sew pillowcases to include in holiday care packages for our service members abroad. Regardless of your sewing skills, your contribution is priceless. All materials will be supplied, so just bring your energy. Bringing additional fabric is optional. If you are unable to attend you may still donate fabric. Lunch Provided.
When: 9/23/24, 10AM - 3:30PM
Where: Spencer County Extension Office
RSVP by 9/12/24, call (502)477-2217.
Donations will be accepted at all Louisville Area Extension Offices until 10/25/24.

Homemaker Summer Outings (RSVP is required, call (502) 477-2217)

June

When: June 7th

Where: Minnie Naïve’s Farm

What: A tour of the historic Naïve farm and a picnic. Mrs. Minnie will provide Naïve beef BBQ. The Extension Office will provide sweet and unsweet tea and paper products. She requests that you bring a lawn chair and a side dish of a vegetable, salad, or dessert.

July

When: July 31st, leaving at 10 AM from the Spencer County Extension Office

We are accepting donation for the Community Baby Shower at the Spencer County Extension Office. So far we have already collected 7 baby Afghans crocheted by Nicole Hahn. Thank you for your time and service. We will be accepting donations through September for the Baby Shower which will take place on October 4, 2024.

Cultural Arts Projects
Cultural Arts Projects are due by March 11, 2024 to the Spencer County Extension Office. After judging please pick up your items by March 15, 2024 anytime between 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM.
If selected at the county level they will move on to the Louisville Area and be judged on April 5th at the Bullitt County Extension Office. Viewing of the items will be from 1 - 2pm that day.
If you are selected to go to Area judging please bring your items back to the Spencer County Extension Office by April 4th, 2024 by 3 PM.
If you plan to submit an item for judging it must include the category you would like to enter it in, your name, and your phone number in order for it to be considered eligible.
